‘Grease’ is the word starting this weekend

For those hopelessly devoted to the musical “Grease”, the relationship can be rekindled these summer nights at New Prague High School when the production opens on Friday and continues August 6, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m. and August 14 at 2 p.m.

When the bell sounds, The Pink Ladies and T-Birds will take centre stage, reuniting for two weekends of “Grease”, produced by Curtain Call Theatre. David Holmes, who has more than 20 years experience on the stage in more than 100 productions, is sitting in the director’s seat. He knows the show well and jumped at the chance to direct it.

“I have done this show twice before playing the roles of Sonny and Danny, and absolutely love the show. When I heard Curtain Call Theatre was doing ‘Grease’, I immediately knew it was a show I wanted to direct so I could put all the great things about the previous productions as well as some other ideas I had into the production,” Holmes said.

Holmes said what makes the show so special is even though it’s based in the 1950s, the challenges the kids faced then are similar to what kids face today.

Curtain Call has kept the Broadway version, and the music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The director said the audience can look forward to a “very professional looking show”.
