3 Titan wrestlers are state bound
Three Tri-City United Titan wrestlers are headed to the State Class AA individual wresting tournament, which begins Friday, March 2, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Nick Johnson and Mason Rutt claimed section championships at 106 and 170 pounds, respectively, and Jordan Simonette placed second at 195 pounds at the Section 2AA tournament in Waseca to earn their spots at the state tourney.
Johnson defeated Colby Dunkel of New Prague and Rutt defeated Alex Logelin of Waconia to earn their championships. Simonette lost to Will Storch of WEM-JWP to place second. Justin Kopet also wrestled in the championship match at 138, losing to Tim Stapleton of Waconia and then losing to Parker Huss of Scott West in the True-second match, to place third.
In all, six Titans placed in the top six at the section tournament:
106 - Nick Johnson, first place - state qualifier
138 - Justin Kopet, third place
160 - Dylan Borchardt, sixth place
170 - Mason Rutt, first place - state qualifier
195 - Jordan Simonette, second place - state qualifier
285 - Ryan Trcka, third place
