50 years of making music
Music has always been part of Kathy Heyda’s life, and for the last 50 years, it has been a part of the lives of St. John Lutheran Church’s parishioners.
Heyda’s dedication to music, to the church and its members were recognized when she was honored on Sunday, Jan. 15. She has been the church’s full-time organist since 1966, playing for services on Saturday evenings, Sunday mornings and special services, including weddings, funerals.
Her musical reach extends far beyond 61 keys on an organ. She also directs the church’s adult, youth and handbell choirs. She also does the musical opening to Sunday School and has coordinated the church’s Living Last Supper. Outside of the church, Heyda has also been a member of the Little Chicago Band and musical director of many Curtain Call Theatre musicals.
