Absentee ballots available for Aug. 10 primary

The absentee voting period for the August 10 primary election in Minnesota begins Friday, June 25, and will continue until Monday, Aug. 9.

Those who wish to file an absentee ballot should contact the election officials at their respective county offices. Absentee voting can be done in person at the county office, or can be done through the mail. Absentee ballot applications can be obtained via the Minnesota Secretary of State's website (www.sos.state.mn.us). Ballots will be sent to registered voters who properly fill out an application.

In Le Sueur County, the voting location or address to send an application is Le Sueur County elections, 88 South Park Ave., Le Center, MN 56057. (Phone 507-357-2251).

In Rice County, the location is the Auditor/Treasurer's office at the Rice County Government Services Building, 320 NW Third St., Faribault, MN 55021. (Phone 507-332-6104).

In Scott County, the location is Scott County Elections, Scott County Government Center, 200 Fourth Ave W, Shakopee MN 55379. (Phone 952-496-8560).

Voting can take place during regular business hours Monday through Friday, with extended voting hours on Saturday, Aug. 7, and Monday, Aug. 9.

The absentee balloting time period comes earlier this year because Minnesota moved its primary from September to August to provide active-duty military and overseas voters more time to participate in Minnesota's elections.

We expect many Minnesotans will be out camping
