Adapted floor hockey team headed to state

Garrett Gagner and Charlie Zeilinger each had a goal and an assist and Alexis Parks added a goal as the New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team defeated Anoka-Hennepin 3-2 in Andover Thursday, sending the Trojans to the State CI Adapted Floor Hockey tournament Friday and Saturday, March 17 and 18, at Bloomington Jefferson High School.
Goaltender Noah Hayden stopped 20 of 22 shots for New Prague, who upped their record to 8-5 on the season. They will face South Washington (13-0) in the first round of the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday.
Gagner scored the Trojan’s first goal eight minutes into the first period, assisted by Zeilinger, who later scored a short-handed gal to put the Trojans up 2-0. Anoka-Hennepin scored a power play goal late in the first and New Prague led 2-1 after one period.
Parks scored, on a Gagner assist, early in the second. Anoka-Hennepin pulled to within one a few minute later and it was 3-2 after two. New Prague staved off a comeback attempt that was aided by a New Prague Penalty that gave the Mustangs a power play for most of the final three mintues.
This is the seventh time in eight years the Trojans have qualified for state. They won the championship in 2014. The cooperative program includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools.
