Adapted softball to face North Suburban in playoffs

The New Prague adapted softball team will travel to Centennial High School for a playoff game against North Suburban Thursday, May 23. The winner will advance to the State CI Adapted Softball Tournament May 31 and June 1 at Coon Rapids.

New Prague has a 2-10 record. North Suburban is 10-1.

New Prague split its final two games of the regular season. They defeated South Suburban 14-4, then lost to Dakota United 10-0.

Trojans 14, Jets 4 New Prague came out ready to play tonight in their final home game against South Suburban, and won by a 15-4 score.

New Prague scored four runs in the first inning thanks to the speed of Charlie Zeilinger, Jacob Malecha, Matt Schoenbauer and Brooklyn Skluzacek.

South Suburban pulled to within a run in the third, but New Prague responded with a pair of runs. Matt Schoenbauer tripled to score Malecha, and later scored on an error.

The Trojan defense continued to hold South Suburban in check, with great defense by Schoenbauer at short, pitcher Alec Palma and first baseman Charlie Zeilinger.

New Prague scored again in the fourth. Chris Pena singled and Palma reached on an error. Zeilinger reached to load the bases, then Malecha drove in two runs with a base hit. Skluzacek singled to drive in two more runs.

South Suburban scored twice in the fifth, but New Prague scored in their half of the inning on a solo home run by Cassie Malecha. Zach Crawford and Eva Johnson both had hits as well, but were left stranded. The Trojans led 11-4.

New Prague added four runs in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule. “We were very proud of the way that our team played tonight,” coach Shellie Kriha said. “We were honoring our Seniors tonight and what better way to celebrate Senior Night than for our lone senior, Cassie Malecha, to get her first home run. She has been a hard-working and dedicated player for us. It was great to see her shine tonight.”

Also honored at Senior Night was volunteer manager Cody Meyer.
