Adapted softball loses pair of games

The New Prague Adapted Softball team lost two games on the road last week. The Trojans dropped a game to Dakota United Tuesday, April 19, and against Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville on Thursday, April 21.

The team was scheduled to face South Washington County Tuesday, April 26, at Woodbury. They will host South Suburban on Thursday, April 28, and travel to Minneapolis Edison on Tuesday, May 3, and St. Paul Humboldt on Thursday, May 5.

Hawks 15, Trojans 5 The Trojans had a great turnaround from its previous game, scoring five runs, and Coach Shellie Kriha said they were happy with the team's performance, despite the loss.

"Dakota United is a top team in our conference and we held with them most of the game," she said.

New Prague turned the bats on starting in the first inning. Seth Dorner started off for NP with a base hit. Brooklyn Skluzacek followed him with a hit. Garret Gagner was up next and had a hard hit that scored Dorner. Jake Schurman also followed suit with a hit and scored Skluzacek.

Unfortunately this is where the runs ended in the first. Defensively, the Trojans recorded three quick outs in the bottom of the first to keep the lead.

In the top of second, Nick Welter got a hit as did Kailyn Gerdes. The top of the order was up again and Dorner and Skluzacek had hits that resulted in another run for New Prague.

In the bottom of the second, Dakota United's bats started heating up as they scored five runs to take a 5-3 lead. They added two more in the third, but the Trojans got the third out, leaving the bases loaded.

In the fourth inning, Johnny Carson reached on an error and Alex Miland hit a two-run home run to right field. That would be it for the Trojan offense as they lost in six innings, 15-5.

"We saw so many good things during this game," Kriha said. "We've been working at hitting the ball hard and that paid off. Dorner, Skluzacek, Gagner and Schurman went 2-for-3. Defensively, we are becoming more aggressive and quick. Eighth grader Garrett Gagner played a great game in center field. Alexis Parks had many great plays at first base. Overall, we only had.....
