Adapted softball team struggles in final regular season games

The New Prague Trojan adapted softball team concluded its regular season with four straight losses.

The team was scheduled to travel to Osseo for a playoff game Wednesday, May 25. The winner will advance to the state tournament, to be held in Coon Rapids on June 3-4.

Southern Stars 16, Trojans 0 It was another tough hitting night for the Trojans, who had only two hits in a 16-0 loss to the Chaska/Chanhassen/Shakopee/ Prior Lake Southern Stars.

Eva Johnson and Nick Welter had the only hits. Several others reached base via walks, but the Trojans could not advance them to score. Outfielders Kaelyn Gerdes and Garrett Gagner both made nice catches, and there was some good infield play by Brookelyn Skluzacek and Jake Schurman. Seth Dorner had another great game as pitcher.

Hawks 16, Trojans 6 New Prague had a good night hitting as they totalled 14 hits in a 16-6 loss to Dakota United.

"It was our best total of the seaon," said Coach Shellie Kriha. "We were able to score some runs with all those hits."

Defensively the Trojans struggled more than usual, with 12 errors.

Offensively leading the Trojans were Jake Schurman going 3-for-3 and Garrett Gagner and Alexis Parks going 2-for-3.

Blazing Cats 16, Trojans 0 The score does not indicate the kind of game New Prague had in their loss to Burnsville/Farmington/ Lakeville.

"The Blazing Cats are one of the best teams in our conference. We were able to hold them to six runs going into the 4th inning," Kriha said.

Schurman, Gagner and Parks played well defensively. Eva Johnson and Chris Pena had the only hits for New Prague.

Thunderbolts 15, Trojans 2 New Prague lost its regular seaosn finale to South Washington County, 15-2.
