Archery teams qualify for nationals

Champlin Park High School hosted the Minnesota National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament on March 22 and 23, and teams from New Prague High School and New Prague Middle School both qualified for the national tournament May 10 and 11 in Louisville, KY.

More than 1,000 archers from 43 Minnesota schools competed, including 72 archers from New Prague.

In the High School Division, New Prague “High Team #1” earned third place with a team score of 3,298 and qualified for the National Tournament. St. Croix Preparatory Academy and Champlin Park High School finished first and second respectively.

The top 12 archers (at least 4 boys and 4 girls), whose scores contributed to the totals, were: Abby Sirek (6th, 284); Dylan Chlan (8th, 284); Erin Wadekamper (281), Andrew Maruska (279), Adrianne Medina (278), Alex Shepard (275), Tom Frawley (274), Allison Shorter (273), Amanda Schoenbauer (273), Rebecca Hinricher (271), Bill Wagner (264), and Jenny Schoenbauer (262).

In the Middle School Division, New Prague “Middle Team #1” earned second place with a team score of 3,272 and qualified for the National Tournament. Jackson Middle School finished first.

The top 12 archers, whose scores contributed were Logan Geer (2nd, 287), Callie Schroeder (2nd, 283), Jacob Love (1st, 283), Dakota Skluzacek (9th-281), Laken Gareis (281), Parker Precht (274), Louis Marcell (273), Zakary Hagglund (271), Kolton Bell (270), Hanna Mooney (9th, 263), Rachel Blanchette (256) and Brielle Leszynski (250).

Five archers were individual qualifiers for the National Tournament. Logan Geer (287) earned second overall for Middle School boys and first for seventh-grade boys. Callie Schroeder (283) earned second overall for Middle School girls and first for eighth-grade girls. Jacob Love (283) earned first overall for Elementary boys and first for fifth-grade boys. Sam Marcell (268) earned seventh overall for Elementary boys and second for fifthgrade boys. Ryan Geer (265) earned ninth overall for Elementary boys and third for fourth-grade boys.

At the regional tournament on March 8 and 9 at Mound-Westonka, 550 archers from 30 schools competed, including 67 archers from New Prague. New Prague “High Team #1” earned third place with a team score of 3,298. St. Croix Preparatory Academy and White Bear Lake finished first and second.

The top 12 archers whose scores contributed were Tom Frawley (8th, 284), Dylan Chlan (280), Erin Wadekamper (6th, 279), Andrew Maruska (279), Allison Shorter (276), Abby Sirek (276), Rebecca Hinricher (274), Heather Vikla (272), Jeremy Schmid (271), Patrick Haney (270), Stephanie Medina (269) and Joe Frawley (268).

In the Middle School Division, New Prague “Middle Team #1” earned second place with a team score of 3,222. Jackson Middle School finished first.

The top 12 archers, whose scores contributed, were Logan Geer (1st, 289), Jacob Love (2nd, 277), Parker Precht (8th, 275), Ryan Geer (4th, 274), Kolton Bell (9th, 273), Callie Schroeder (7th, 272), Laken Gareis (271), Kyle Belfield (265), Zakary Hagglund (265), Hanna Mooney (5th, 258), Rachel Blanchette (258) and Jessica Amundson (245). Sam Marcell (272) earned sixth for the elementary boys as an individual.
