Arnie Patrick Schoenbauer, 80

Arnie Patrick Schoenbauer, age 80, passed away into the arms of our heavenly Father, surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s.

Arnie was born in New Prague to Emmanuel (ET) and Julia (Svoboda) Schoenbauer on June 25, 1937. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Grade School and New Prague High School. He briefly attended Marquette University on an ROTC scholarship in engineering but was soon called home after his father’s serious heart attack so he could run the family farm. The following year, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota where he majored in agriculture business and was an active member of the AGR fraternity. He received his degree and proceeded to run a hog and crop farming operation in New Prague.

He married the love of his life, Ann Shekleton, in September 1962. Together they raised their family and were active members of both the New Prague and St. Wenceslaus communities. Arnie served in leadership capacities and made significant contributions to many organizations including as a board member for the school district and Queen of Peace Hospital, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and numerous committees at St. Wenceslaus including as a parish trustee.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Ann, and their five sons, Dave (Jamie), Pat Moriarty (Linda), Jeff (Traci), Brad (Kytyn), and Robb (Lynn), 19 grandchildren, and his four sisters Darlene Witt, JoAnn Zaun, Dorothy Illg (Gene) and Elaine Price (Dave). Arnie is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jeanette Deutsch, and brothers-in-law, Myles Bartusek, Norbert Deutsch, Jack Witt, Roger Zaun, Jack Shekleton, and Larry Shekleton.

Arnie will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father, a dear friend with an open heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and an excellent mind. Besides his love of family, faith, and farming, he enjoyed golf, sports, travel, a good game of Euchre, and a big bowl of ice cream! He left a lasting impression on all who knew him and he brought joy to so many through the many organizations and positions in which he served and his many life-long friendships.

He will forever be in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Wenceslaus Catholic School or a charity of your choice.
