Auction of Schumacher's Hotel set for September 19

In less than a week, the fate of Schumacher's Hotel & Restaurant will be decided, as the historic New Prague building goes up for final auction at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Alliance Auction & Reality Services will conduct the auction at the hotel, which has attracted guests from around the nation to experience its European atmosphere through the years. The Schumacher family hired the firm to handle the auction of the building.

Schumacher's Hotel & Restaurant was owned and operated by John and Kathleen Schumacher who decided to close it in May 2005 to pursue other ventures.

Originally known as Hotel Broz, the historic structure was built in 1989 and was designed by architect Cass Gilbert. He also designed the Minnesota State Capitol and the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C.
