Baseball team picks up 1st win in 2AAA play

The New Prague Trojan baseball team picked a good time to earn its first win of the season. The Trojans, with an 0-13 record, entered the Section 2AAA playoffs as the No. 12 seed, and took on No. 5 Hutchinson Friday, May 24, coming away with a 3-1 win.

New Prague lost its next two games, to Shakopee, 11- 1 on Friday, and to Waconia, 2-1 in extra innings, on Monday, May 27. They finish their season with a 1-15 record.

Trojans 3, Tigers 1 New Prague scored single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings to take a 3-0 lead, then survived a Hutchinson comeback attempt to claim the 3-1 win. Daniel Feneis pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits and one run while striking out eight and walking none to get the win. New Prague had seven hits, with Cody Shimota going 2-for-2 with an RBI, Joe Heinz, Brok Schwartzkopf, Ben Doerr, Eric Wagner and Mike Gillen also had hits, with Gillen and Danny Beckius getting RBIs. Wagner and Schwartzkopf both had doubles for the Trojans. Sabers 11, Trojans 1 New Prague took a lead 1- 0 over Shakopee when Shimota drove in Eric Wagner in the top of the second. However the Trojans gave up the lead in the bottom of the second, then gave up five runs in the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game on the 10-run rule.

The Trojans had five hits, one each by Auggie Isaacson, Michael Coldagelli, Heinz, Ben Doerr and Shimota.

Ben Miller started and took the loss, going 4-1/3 innings. Paul Hentges and Hunter Piehl came on in relief.

Wildcats 2, Trojans 1 New Prague scored in the top of the first on an RBI single by Heinz, scoring Paul Hentges. Waconia answered back with a run in their half of the first, and it stayed that way for seven innings.

Pitchers Jason Kazlauskas and Feneis combined to allow just four hits. New Prague survived a scare with two runners on in the bottom of the seventh when a double play ended the inning. However Waconia loaded the bases with a couple of walks and a hit. The Trojans forced a ground ball to force a runner at home, however the relay for a double play sailed into right field and allowed the winning run to score.

The Trojans had two hits from Heinz and one each from Isaacson, Hentges, Wagner, Shimota, Kazlauskas and Beckius. Kazlauskas started and went 4- 2/3 innings. Feneis pitched 2- 2/3 innings and took the loss.
