Bernard Barabash Sr., 67

Bernard “Bernie” Benjamin Barabash Sr., 67, of Montgomery, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Bernie was born on December 6, 1945, at French Lake in Rice County, a son of Peter and Elsie (Trinka) Barabash. He served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army from June 1967 to 1969, and received a purple heart. Bernie married Evelyn Belille on June 15, 1974, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, building things and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife; children Bernie (Jenny) Barabash Jr., Montgomery, Carol (Kevin) Mader, New Prague, Josette Winterfeldt, Montgomery, Michael Winterfeldt, New Prague, and Patricia Winterfeldt, Cass Lake; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery.

Burial will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Montgomery, with military honors provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery, and Saturday at the church one hour prior to services.
