Bernard M. “Bernie” Tupy, age 83

Bernard M. “Bernie” Tupy, age 83, of Lonsdale, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at The Villages of Lonsdale. Bernie was born November 11, 1933 on the family farm in Wheatland Township, rural New Prague, to William F. and Mary Rose (Tupy) Tupy. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and graduated from New Prague High School in 1951. Bernard married Martha Duban in 1955. After Martha died in 1981, Bernard married Lillian M. (Schoenbauer) Vosejpka on April 23, 1983, at Lonsdale. Bernie was a dairy and hog farmer in Lanesburgh Township for 29 years. After he moved to Northfield, he drove a school bus, and worked as a cabinet maker in Lonsdale, and as a golf course groundskeeper.

Bernard was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church until 1983, when moved to Northfield and joined St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Polka Lovers Club of America. In 1995, Bernard was crowned King of the Polka by the Polka Lovers Club of America. He enjoyed playing cards with family, listening to old time music, and dancing with friends. Bernard and Lillian enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to Texas and travelled around the world for polka dancing.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Lillian of Lonsdale; children, Connie Tupy of New Prague, Duane of New Prague, Kevin (Laura) of Menagha, MN, Mary (Greg) Soukup of New Prague; 5 grandchildren, Joseph & Daniel Soukup, Natalie, Suzannah, & Nicole Tupy; brother, George Tupy of Downey, CA; sister, Rose Marie Franek of New Prague; sister-in-law, Gladys Tupy of New Prague; Lillian’s children, Steven (Tamara) Vosejpka of Webster, Gary (Maureen) Vosejpka of Dundas, Brenda (Roger) Schommer of New Prague, Lloyd (Debbie) Vosejpka of Lonsdale, Arnie (Carol) Vosejpka of Lonsdale; Lillian’s 19 grandchildren; Lillian’s 21 greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Rose; first wife, Martha Ann Tupy on Sept. 13, 1981; brothers, Stanley in infancy and Donald (d. 2012).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father David Barrett officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-8 PM on Friday and 7:30 - 9:30 AM Saturday morning at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur after Mass at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
