Bernice Sand, 87

Bernice W. Sand, 87, of Shakopee, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at her home with family members at her side.

She was born in Union Hill, Scott County, July 9, 1923, to Nicholas and Mary (Schommer) Wolf. She married Jerome A. Sand on June 5, 1946 at St. Joseph's Church, rural Jordan. Bernice was a volunteer and member of several organizations, some of them included the Council of Catholic Women at St. Mark's Catholic Church, St. Bridget's Society and St. Ann's Society of the Catholic Aid Association of St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church in Marystown, St. Francis Hospital and the Ladies Auxiliary, Shakopee Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4046 Ladies Auxiliary, Shakopee American Legion Post 2 Ladies Auxiliary, and

serving funeral luncheons at St. Mark's Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, baking, gardening and flowers, and taking walks and enjoying nature. She especially loved her family.

She is survived by children Margaret M. Sticha, New Prague, Jerome Jr. (Kristine), Minnetonka, Michael (Susan), Cannon Falls, Rosemarie (Gary) Lewis, Northfield, Thomas (Lori), Lakeville, Paul (Jodi), Farmington; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Leona Kerber, Arizona, Anne (Roman) Haas, Hutchinson; brother-in-law Jerry Sovinski, Chatfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law Bill Sticha; her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Cletus and Mary Wolf; sister Vera Sovinksi; and brother-in-law Kenny Kerber.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Jan.12 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee with Rev. Timothy Norris officiating.

Interment was at the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren Mary Dean, Gretchen Sand, Matthew Sand, Catherine Lewis, David Sand, and Jacob Sand. Honorary pallbearers were Bernice's additional 14 grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 11 a.m. with C.C.W. Rosary at 9:45 a.m. at the McNearney Funeral Home, Shakopee.
