Board hears revised facilities recommendation

The public spoke, and the school board listened.

The Tri-City School Board made sure it heard its residents loud and clear when they discussed a new facilities recommendation at a board workshop on Monday, June 26, that will lead to a future building referendum.

David Maroney from the company ATS&R presented a facilities recommendation that takes into account residents concerns and opinions from a district-wide survey conducted during the winter.

After receiving survey results, the district reconvened its Community Task Force to revise the $18.69 million building referendum that failed by 15 votes in May, 2016. The Task Force met three times, discussed options, feedback then presented a revised and plan with a shaved price tag to the board.

A steady influx of students into Tri-City United schools that are making classroom spaces smaller, the maintenance of older buildings and security for students and staff were a few of the new recommendations. Maroney told the board the task force’s goal was to look at what the community was thinking when revising the plan. “Our main focus was the community and what it would support,” he said.
