Boys 2nd at Last Chance track meet

The New Prague Trojan boys track and field team hosted a “Last Chance Invitational” Tuesday, May 23, giving athletes one last chance at competition before the section meet.

“For our JV athletes, this was their last opportunity to set PRs. For others, it was a last chance to earn a spot on the section team,” Coach Nick Meyer said. “We had several athletes rise to the occasion.” All told, there were 38 personal bests by Trojan competitors at the meet.

Meyer added that for varsity athletes, it was a last chance to improve their marks and ”tune up” before the section meet.

New Prague will be one of 16 teams to compete in the Section 2AA meet this week. Preliminaries and some finals were held Wednesday, May 31, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press. The meet will conclude at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Friday, June 2.

The Trojans placed second in a five-team field. Waconia won the meet with 189.5 points, followed by New Prague (181), Kasson-Mantorville (137), Waseca (78.5) and Trinity (66).

Four Trojans turned in first place finishes: Elijah Parker won the 100 meters in 11.78 seconds, Eric Chromy returned from injury to win the 110 hurdles in 15.16, Egan Beard won the discus with a throw of 115 feet, 6 inches, and Christian Velishek won the high jump by clearing 6 feet.

Placing second for the Trojans were Noah Hummel in the discus, Cade Jallen in the long jump, Andrew McGannon in the shot put and Nick Arguedas in the triple jump.
