Boys CC team takes 9th at section meet

The New Prague Trojan boys cross country team finished ninth in a 15-team field at the Section 2AA meet at Buffalo Heights GC in Buffalo Thursday, Oct. 24. 

            Three Trojans set personal best times on the challenging course, Dakota Greenwalt, Justin Gregor and Tony Smith.

            “Our competitors gave our program plenty in which to take pride,” Coach Nick Meyer said. “They worked hard as a group, just as they had all season, bringing positive energy each day. We had a great team chemistry that helped these individual gel as a unit during this season.”

            Top Trojan runner was Greenwalt, who was 40th overall in 17:46.7. That was five seconds faster than teammate Josh Dvorak (46th, 17:51.2). Other Trojans were Wyatt Midtvedt (53rd, 18:02.0), Smith (54th, 18:03.9), Gregor (71st, 18:35.9), Steven Kvam (75th, 18:41.7) and Cole Minnick (78th, 18:47.9). Greenwalt and Minnick are seniors and ran the last final cross country meet of their high school careers.

            Isaiah Barlow of Hutchinson was the medalist for the meet in a time of 15 minutes, 53.4 seconds. His Tiger squad won the team championship with 60 points, while Chanhassen took the second state berth with 109, edging Chaska by one point. The rest of the field included Delano (116), Buffalo (118), Shakopee (138), Marshall (139), Orono (193), New Prague (264), Mound Westonka (287), Worthington (292), Mankato West (300), Dassel-Cokato (327), Waconia (359) and Mankato East (396).

            Besides the top two teams, the top eight finishers from other teams qualified for state. They were Adam Armbruster of Delano, Spencer Urick and Zac Miller of Chaska, Frank Graham and Michael Wegter of Buffalo, Andrew Bell of Marshall, Kyle Rachel of Shakopee and Alex Carrabre of Waconia.
