Boys get pair of come-from-behind wins

After winning their first three games with relative ease, the New Prague Trojan boys basketball team claimed a pair of come-from-behind wins against Holy Family Catholic and Rochester Mayo last week.

In both games the Trojans were ahead most of the game, fell behind late and then pulled away at the end.

The Trojans (5-0, No. 6 Class AAA) were scheduled to play at Austin Tuesday, Dec. 21, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press. They will have a week off before returning to action at the Winona State University Warrior Classic. Their first-round opponent will be LaCrosse (WI) Logan at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29. The Trojans will face either Winona or White Bear Lake on Thursday, Dec. 30.



Trojans 63, Fire 55

New Prague trailed by four points with four minutes left, then outscored Holy Family Catholic 16-4 in the final minutes to claim a 61-53 win.

Senior Cale Girten led the Trojans with 16 points, while Joe Hatch and Sergio Najera had 12 each. Also scoring for New Prague were Jake Meyer (7), Jed Kreuser (6), Alex Dittberner (5), and Trevor O'Brien (3).

Girten also had eight rebounds for the Trojans. Dittberner and Meyer had four assists each and Luke Busch had three steals.

Trojans 57, Spartans 52

New Prague again came back from a late deficit to record a 57-52 win over Rochester Mayo.

The Trojans were led by Kreuser with 12 points. Girten and Najera had 11 each and Joe Hatch added 10. Also scoring were Trevor O'Brien with nine points and Meyer with four.

Girten pulled down 10 rebounds for the Trojans.
