Boys hockey team tops Falcons, 5-1

The New Prague Trojan boys played their most complete hockey game of the season as they defeated Faribault 5-1 at the Faribault Arena Tuesday, Dec. 21.

The Trojans (3-4, 1-0 Missota) are playing this week in the Duluth Heritage Classic. New Prague was scheduled to face host Duluth Central at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round. On Wednesday the Trojans will face either Rosemount or Buffalo. Other first round games in the tournament, which concludes Thursday, have Forest Lake vs. Andover and Bemidji vs. Cloquet.

Against the Falcons, the Trojans scored three power play goals, reversing a trend from earlier in the season when they were allowing power play goals. The Falcons amassed 30 penalty minutes, compared to just 14 for New Prague, and the Trojans had just one penalty in the final period,

New Prague goals were scored by James Oak (from Curt Brezina), Cody Meyer (from Jordan Holicky), Austin Kilian (from Meyer), Brezina (from Meyer) and Brent Jones (from Alex Woyda). Oak, Kilian and Jones scored on the power play, while Brezina's goal was a shorthanded goal. Faribault's only goal, which tied the game at 1-1 late in the first, came on a power play.

Joe Morris picked up his second win of the season, stopping 21 of 22 shots.
