Boys hoops team stays unbeaten

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team went into the Christmas break unbeaten after claiming two more wins last week.

The Trojans upped their record to 6-0 with a home win over previously unbeaten East Ridge and a blowout over Section 1AAAA foe Rochester Mayo.

The Trojans, ranked No. 11 in Class AAAA, are in Hibbing this week for the Hibbing Tournament. They were scheduled to open play at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, against Andover. Their second round game on Thursday, Dec. 29, will be against either Duluth East or Totino-Grace (No. 15 Class AAA). The tournament concludes Friday, Dec. 30. The other four teams in the tournament are Cambridge-Isanti, Hibbing, Chanhassen and Kildonan East of Manitoba.

New Prague will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Farmington.

Trojans 59, Raptors 46 New Prague and East Ridge met in a battle of unbeaten teams Tuesday. The teams took turns with the lead early, but the Trojans asserted themselves late in the first half and went on to a 59- 46 win over the Raptors.

New Prague shot a blistering 61 percent from the field, scoring 11 of its 16 field goals from inside the paint, where they were 11 of 17. They also added four threepointers. The Trojans had a 29-24 advantage on the boards.

Zach Hanson led the Trojans with 16 points, while Jacob Milinkovich added 14. Jared Milknovich added nine points and Jacob Washa, Austin Zimmer, Tyler Kemp and Jake Lindell each added five.

Jacob Milinkovich was an impressive 10-of-10 from the free throw line and also had five steals and three assists for the Trojans. Jacob Wash had four steals and three assists, Hanson had two....
