Boys win home golf invitational

New Prague’s boys golf team had a first, second and third place finish in three meets last week. The week was highlighted by a first place finish at the New Prague Invitational Friday afternoon at the New Prague Golf Club.

The team will be in Rosemount for a meet on Thursday, April 27, and competes at home on Monday, May 1, in a four-team Missota Conference meet with Shakopee, Northfield and Red Wing.

Missota Early Bird

New Prague competed in the Missota Early Bird Tournament, at Mississippi National Golf Club in Red Wing Tuesday, and the team finished second, five strokes behind the host Wingers.

Red Wing had a score of 314, with the Trojans four back at 319. It was a tight contest, with seven of the eight teams finishing within nine strokes of the lead. Farmington had 320, with Hutchinson and Prior Lake at 321. Holy Angels had 323 and Northfield 328. Shakopee was eighth at 346.

Jacob Endersbe of Farmington was medallist, scoring a 1-under-par 70. The Trojans Jason Hatch finished in a six-way tie for third place, with a 76. Taylor Ruehling had a 79, followed by Stephen Gross with an 80 and Tyler Starkey with an 84.

New Prague’s JV team had two tournaments on the Mississippi National Course in as many days. On Monday, April 17, they competed in the Red Wing JV Invitational, finishing fourth. Hastings won the meet, followed by Eastview and Red Wing. New Prague was led by Collin Hughes, who carded an 84, followed by Kevin Cassidy (85), John Ryan (87) and Heath Pelzer (88).

On Tuesday, in the Missota JV Early Bird, New Prague finished first of eight teams, with a 338, 14 strokes in front of second place Red Wing. Hughes again led the Trojans with an 81, followed by Ryan (84), Sam Dittberner (86) and Pelzer (87).

The Trojans won their own invitational meet, using a tie-breaker against Orono to claim the win.
