Bus garage expansion parked and set

The New Prague Planning Commission held a very brief meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The commission opened a public hearing on the bus garage expansion for the New Prague Area School District and then unanimously approved an action to continue the hearing to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27.

The action on February 22 was taken under advisement of City Administrator Mike Johnson, who was sitting in for City Planning Director Ken Ondich, absent due to health reasons.

At the continuance on Monday, the commission unanimously recommended for approval an amendment for New Prague Area School District’s bus garage. The amendment is for a conditional use permit for the bus garage at 105 Seventh St. NE. The school district is proposing an addition of 13,950 square feet to the garage, allowing it to house a total of 36 busses and 22 school vans.

Representing the school district at the meeting were Operations Manager Craig Most, Todd Wetzel from ICS Consulting and Katelyn Schmidt from Wold Architects. As for the public hearing, there was no commentary provided.
