Businesses to participate in designated driver program

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

Ten New Prague businesses are participating in the Scott County Safe Communities Coalition's fourth annual Home for the Holidays designated driver program.

City Club Bar, Classic Grille & Bar, Corner Bar, Fishtale Grill, Flipside Pub & Grill, Miller's Tap, Praha Haus Family Restaurant, Simon's Sports Bar and Strike Force Bowl, all in New Prague, are all taking part in the county-wide initiative.

In Elko New Market, businesses Bergstrom's Tavern, Bulls Eye Saloon, Captain Black's Bar & Grill, Firehouse Pizza and Leo's Bar will be part of the safety program.

These and other businesses in Scott County communities will be providing free non-alcoholic beverages to customers identifying themselves as designated drivers. The program began Friday, Dec. 21, and continues through Friday, Jan. 4. A poster will be displayed in each of the establishments that are participating in the program. The businesses will also receive a certificate of appreciation for their part in this initiative.

The coalition is a partnership of county agencies and organizations that have come together to promote community awareness of the high number of serious injuries and deaths caused by alcohol-related traffic crashes. The organizations include Scott County Public Health, Queen of Peace Hospital, area police departments, local school districts, faith communities, MADD and AAA.

For more information on how to participate next year or how to join the Safe Communities Coalition, contact Angie Lefebvre at Scott County Public Health.
