Chamber of Commerce moves forward

"Let's keep Montgomery moving forward" was a resounding theme of an informational  meeting held Thursday, evening, May 19 at the Montgomery American Legion Club. Local business owners and residents, numbering 35, were in attendance in response to a letter sent out by Montgomery attorney, Rick Lea, and CornerStone Bank President, Connie White Tupy. The purpose of the meeting was to gauge interest and to answer questions about the formation of a Montgomery Chamber of Commerce organization.

Tupy provided general background on what a Chamber of Commerce is, what it does, and who can belong. Tupy noted that a Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of the businesses, and that the membership can include businesses, individuals, local organizations, even the area 4-H Club and the local baseball team.

When asked what drove her to look into the formation of a local Chamber, Tupy said that the loss of the local hardware store is what sparked her to move forward with a Chamber of Commerce. "I want to see businesses thrive," she said, adding, "Montgomery does have a lot of positives going on too, and we have to keep moving forward."

Lea stated, ”A Chamber can help the community as a whole, and that helps our respective businesses.”
