Charges filed in hit-and-run death

Matthew K. Hartley, 33, of Farmington, faces three counts of criminal vehicular homicide in the death of 24-year-old Mollie Mahowald of Elko New Market. He was charged in Scott County District Court Tuesday, Sept. 27.
The three charges include gross negligence,  being under the influence of alcohol and the third for leaving the scene of the crash. He made his first court appearance Tuesday, Sept. 27, and remains in the Scott County Jail. 
According to the criminal complaint, Hartley and another motorcyclist were doing “burnouts” on the road, and both appeared intoxicated, according to a witness from a nearby bar. After the crash, bystanders tried to get them to stop, but they sped off.
