Charges pending for Kilkenny woman in crash that killed Lakeville man

One man who was riding his motorcycle is dead after a Kilkenny woman hit him head-on with her Chevrolet Equinox on Sunday, Oct. 16.

At approximately 3:35 p.m., Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle on County Road 3, approximately one mile north of the City of Kilkenny.

Deputies discovered that a vehicle traveling south bound on County Road 3 and driven by Kimberly Stangler, 51, of Kilkenny, had entered the northbound lane and struck a motorcycle head on who was traveling north.

The man riding the motorcycle was Edward Lipscomb, 65, of Lakeville.

According to Sheriff Dave Tietz, there was extensive damage to both vehicles. Lipscomb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stangler was transported by ambulance to District 1 Hospital in Faribault.

During the investigation, deputies had probable cause to believe that Stangler was under the influence of alcohol, which was believed to play a major factor in the crash.

After Stangler was cleared from the hospital, she was placed under arrest for criminal vehicular operation/homicide.

Stangler is currently being held in the Le Sueur County Jail pending a bail hearing.

Responding agencies included the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office, Kilkenny Fire and Rescue, Montgomery Ambulance, Mayo Air, and the Minnesota State Patrol, who continues to investigate the accident.
