The New Prague City Council unanimously denied a request from Jerome and Deborah Tilbury at 600 Columbus Ave. S. for a variance from their rear property line.
Renee Christianson, New Prague City Planner, said the couple has a two-stall garage and wanted to add a third stall to it. The 12-foot by 26-foot addition would be 19 feet from the rear property line, which would require an 11 foot variance from the line. While the house has a Columbus Avenue address its garage and front door face Fifth Street SE.
Christianson said that the New Prague Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial, not wanting to set a precendent.
The council unanimously approved the preliminary and final plat for Turek Estates.
The area is located in Lanesburgh Township, in an area that is covered by the city's Comprehensive Plan. The property is 83.80 acres and the applicants, Dennis and Janet Turek, were proposing to have a small cluster of homes on lots of about 10 acres.
Christianson said the Tureks had presented a similar plat about a year ago. Due to title issues that couldn't be resolved at that time, they couldn't file the plat within six months of city approval and had to reapply for the platting.
