City OK’s annexation of 255 acres

By Patrick Fisher

The New Prague City Council unanimously approved the annexation of approximately 255 acres of land on the west side of the city at its Monday meeting.

The approval of the annexation of the land from Helena Township into the city is considered a step forward for the New Prague Area School District as the district has a vested interest in the land. The area is where the district is currently proposing to build one of its schools.

Geiger Land Development brought the proposal before the council. Brian Trnka of Geiger Land Development attended the February 1 meeting of the Helena Township Board to discuss the annexation with them. The township agreed to the annexation.

New Prague City Administrator Jerry Bohnsack said the city had met with the developer and had worked out an agreement about Naylor Avenue, which is located next to the land.

The approval of the annexation and the approval that same night of the New Prague Comprehensive Plan are a boost to the school district, which is working toward opening the school for the 2006 school year.

I feel tremendous gratitude to the city staff for getting us to this point
