City preps for Main Street project

The City of New Prague continues to prepare for the future construction project that will take place in 2020 along Main Street in the downtown of the community. New Prague is working with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) since Main Street is also part of Highway 19.

As part of its work the city recently launched a website that will contain all project related information and allow area residents to submit their e-mail addresses to subscribe to news and updates on the project. The website is at <http://www.newpraguemainstreet. com>www.newpraguemainstreet. com. The city and MnDOT decided the city would take the lead in the project, which will allow the work to be done at an earlier date. If the work was led by MnDOT it would likely not be done until 2025.

The proposed project will replace aging city utilities, reconstruct the roadway and include streetscaping amenities such as lighting and sidewalk improvements. The proposed construction work will be from the intersection with Highway 21 on the west to the intersection with Seventh Avenue SE on the east. Among the work to be done includes the:
