City will seek bids for remodeling golf club

By Patrick Fisher

The New Prague City Council unanimously approved a proposal Monday evening to ask for bids on a remodeling project for the New Prague Golf Club.

The proposal came out of a review of plans for the remodeling of the building. The first portion of the building was constructed in the 1940s with additions and renovations made to the building over the years.

Presenting the review was Duane Wermerskirchen, president of the New Prague Golf Board, and David Darrell, an architect who has been working with the club. Wermerskirchen said the golf board has been examining the situation with the building and the problems that they are facing with it. The board hired a consultant and went over whether it should construct a new building or remodel the present one.

The golf board rejected the idea of building a new clubhouse, since the cost was estimated at $2 million. Instead, the board chose to remodel the building, for an estimated $500,000.

During the presentation it was shown that the wood in some areas of the building has dry rot, there is moss growing in other places and the shingles on one portion of the roof need to be replaced. Last year part of the steps leading up to the building’s deck had to be replaced when a man fell through them. Also, the tiles in the kitchen floor and areas of the men’s locker room need to be replaced.

I’ll tell it like it is
