Classic Cannon Valley All Stars defeat D-R-S All-Stars, 8-5

Trailing 5-3 in the middle of the seventh inning, the Classic Cannon Valley League All-Stars rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Dakota-Rice-Scott League All-Stars 8-5 in the fourth annual game between the two leagues last Friday night at Northfield. It was the third win of the four games for the Cannon Valley team.

Eric Anderson of Northfield, who led off with a home run for the Cannon Valley team in the second inning, hit a two-run single to right field in the seventh to tie the score at 5-5. Later, after a walk and two outs, Ryan Plonski of Cannon Falls hit a bases clearing double for the three-run margin and the game-winning hit.

The D-R-S team led twice in the first six innings.

Matt Pexa of St. Patrick led off the game with a walk and scored an unearned run in the first.

In the third inning, Aaron Langsweirdt of St. Benedict led off with a double and scored when Dan Smith of Union Hill singled to left.

Greg Faue of Prior Lake led off the fifth inning with a single and scored later in the inning on Smith’s sacrifice fly.

In the D-R-S sixth, Brett Hoffman of Webster opened with a walk, Chad Vosejpka of Lonsdale bunted for a single, Brian Pumper of Veseli advanced both with a sacrifice bunt, Faue walked to load the bases, and Chad Skluzacek of New Prague hit a single to left for a pair of runs.

There were many substitutions during the game. The D-R-S team used six different pitchers and the Cannon Valley team used a different pitcher every inning. In addition, the D-R-S managers used two or three players at every other position.
