For the city of New Prague the number of commercial and industrial permits issued for 2011 remained steady for the fourth year in a row.

New Prague issued a total of 173 building permits at a value of $4,025,766. Of that total, 30 were commercial and industrial permits. The majority of the remaining permits were for miscellaneous items such as fences, decks, garages, additions and re-roofing projects.

For the commercial and industrial permits, the city had a decrease of two permits from 2010, which is the first drop since 2008. City Planning Director Ken Ondich noted for 2011, the value of the commercial and industrial permits actually increased by more than $1.75 million from the previous year. The increase brings it back in line with 2009 and 2008, which had values at $2.2 million and $1.9 million, respectively.

Ondich said there was really not one project to account for the approximately $2.3 million brought in by the 2011 commercial and industrial permits. Among the projects was the addition to Scott Equipment, the expansion at Electromed Inc., the expansion and remodeling at Pizza Ranch and renovations to the Broz Hotel.

Also to note for building in the city was that the number of new single family construction permits decreased for the third straight year. For 2011 there were five permits, three fewer than 2010 and a drop from 13 in 2009. The value of the constructed new single family home permits decreased by about $668,978 in 2011. Average new construction single family home values decreased from $188,692 in 2010 to $168,312 in 2011. Also, for the fifth consecutive year, there were no townhomes or multifamily housing units constructed.

The 132 miscellaneous permits had a value of $798,639, while there were six public permits that brought in $132,551. Those were for projects including work at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
