A community’s support

The New Prague Community is pulling together to support the residents who lost their homes Monday when a fire tore through the Maple Acres Apartments.

Sixteen adults and two children were displaced by the fire, the cause of which is under investigation. Since Monday, people have been active in working to make sure the residents have what they need to start rebuilding their lives.

There are support systems in place, such as the American Red Cross, that provides immediate assistance. The Red Cross makes sure the people’s needs are met in the short term, and points them in the direction of longterm resources that will help them with housing, clothing and in coping with the loss they are experiencing.

But besides the Red Cross, community members are coming together. On social media platforms such as Facebook, people are volunteering to help. A group of local pastors plans to meet this week to coordinate efforts to help these people who are in need.

Anyone who wants to help can call the American Red Cross at 612-871- 7676 and donate to their Disaster Relief Fund. In addition, check The New Prague Times website and Facebook Page, and we will let people know what local efforts are being made to help these neighbors in their recovery.
