Community Action Network to host Healthcare Panel conversation Jan. 21

The New Prague Community Action Network (NPCAN) is holding the second of its two-part community conversation on the topic of healthcare. “The Future of Healthcare Policy: What’s Next?” will be held Sunday, Jan. 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1304 Main St. in New Prague.

Healthcare policy is one of the most complex and highly charged issues in America today. NPCAN has gathered a panel of Minnesota experts with diverse experience and points of view to discuss the topic of healthcare, which affects all of us. Joining the conversation will be Rep. David Bly, Sen. Rich Draheim, Rep. Clark Johnson and Mary Klimp of Mayo Clinic Health System.

Rep. David Bly (DFL-District 20B) is a Northfield native, a five-term member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and coauthor of the Minnesota Health Care Act, a proposal for single payer healthcare in Minnesota. Bly, a former educator, represents parts of rural New Prague as well as Northfield, Dundas, Lonsdale, Montgomery and surrounding townships. He describes his mission as striving “to support the five essential building blocks for a Land of Opportunity in the modern age: quality education, health care for everyone, a world-class education system, safe and clean energy systems, and living wages for working people”.

Sen. Rich Draheim (R-District 20) is a first-term senator representing south central Minnesota, including New Prague. He serves on the Senate Select Committee on Healthcare Consumer Access and Affordability. Draheim is a small business owner who promotes job creation and the growth of main street economics. The senator is also vice chair of the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee.

Rep. Clark Johnson (DFL-District 19A) serves on the Agricultural Finance Committee and Environmental Policy and Finance Committee. Johnson has proposed a public option for Minnesota by selling MinnesotaCare plans on the individual insurance market. Johnson represents the St. Peter and North Mankato area.
