Construction progressing at New Prague schools

Dan Thompson of ICS Consulting was at the September 12 workshop meeting of the New Prague Area School Board to give members an update on the construction projects of the district.

He said overall work is progressing well, and estimated completion dates had been moved up in many cases.

Most significantly, the estimated finishing date for the middle school classroom additions is December 28, with the office completion date December 27. The original plans had been for a February finish. The new date will ensure that the new additions will be ready to occupy when students return from the holiday break in January. That will free up the current office suite at the middle school and the sixth grade annex at the Central Education Campus a month ahead of schedule, giving workers a headstart on those phases of the project.

Thompson also added that the new loading dock at the middle school will be finished by October 11, although some exterior finishing will not be done until December or January. The new gym at the middle school should be done by January 9.

He said the new kitchen at the middle school should be complete before the end of the school year, but there are no plans to use that during the 2016-17 school year. The old kitchen will continue to be used through the year, then will be torn out to make additional room in the commons area.

Thompson said there were some significant changes in the timelines of the Central Education Campus.
