Correction: School levy impact on taxpayers
In last week's article on the school district levy (The New Prague Times, July 19), figures showing residents how the levy would impact taxpayers were incorrectly stated as being per month rather than per year.
For example, a homeowner with property valued at $250,000 is currently paying $199/year under the present levy (not per month). If the proposed levy passes, that same resident will pay $358/year (not per month), an annual increase of $159 per year or $13.17 per month.
A special election to vote on the proposed levy and new school board members will take place on November 6, 2007; if passed, the levy will go into effect in taxes payable year 2008, providing $757 per student.
An operating levy currently in place provides the district with $453 per student. When that levy expires at the end of taxes payable year 2007, a new referendum is necessary.
The proposed referendum will increase by a maximum of $304 per student due to the growth of the district since the last levy.
