Council approves golf management contract

The New Prague Times The New Prague City Council approved 4-1 at its Tuesday, Jan. 16, meeting a one-year contract between the city and Golf Management Enterprises (GME) LLC for it to manage the New Prague Golf Club.

Golf Board Chair Tom Mach presented the proposal to the council. He explained that at the board’s November 28, 2017 meeting they discussed renewing the contract with GME, adding they do a good job. He noted that it had been a tougher year the for the golf club due to weather. The board voted 4-0 to recommended the contract for 2018. He said it has a 2 percent cost of living increase, raising the agreement to $127,500, which is an increase of $2,500 over the 2017 agreement. The Golf Board also recommended that GME be eligible to receive an additional $2,500 in compensation for the 2018 season based on acceptable performance. It was noted that in 2017 GME was also eligible for an additional $5,000 in compensation, but based on discussions between them and the board it is not likely this will be paid. While GME’s final performance evaluation for 2017 is not complete at this time, it is not likely the compensation for 2017 will be recommended.

Mayor Chuck Nickolay is the council representative to the Golf Board, he said he abstained from the November vote so as not to influence a council decision. He did agree with Mach about the good value GME brings to the golf course.
