Council deals with tax forfeited land
The New Prague City Council dealt with tax forfeited land at its Monday, Aug. 19, meeting, approving the sale of the property to the public.
The city received a letter from Scott County regarding the land, located at 1401 First St. NE, New Prague. A 50-foot buffer for a nearby wetland encroaches into the property, leaving 90 feet of land to build on. While the buffer does limit development of the property, the land still has value as a future commercial building site, either on its own or combined with vacant lot to the west.
The council faced three options regarding the land - Purchase it, request a conveyance of the property to allow for public use of it or approve it for public sale.
City staff recommended selling the land since they didn’t see many benefits for the property as a public use. The nearest park in that area is North Side Park.
