Council OKs agreement with Prior Lake Police

It seems the Super Bowl will be touching New Prague in a way. The New Prague City Council approved, with stipulations, a cooperative agreement with the city of Prior Lake at its Monday, Dec. 18, meeting. The agreement is regarding public safety related to the 2018 Club Nomadic Event.

City Planning Director Ken Ondich explained the 2018 Club Nomadic Event is a concert venue that will be taking place around the Super Bowl, which is being held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Various concerts and activities will be held on the property of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community beginning on Thursday, Feb. 1, through Sunday, Feb. 4.

The city of Prior Lake and its police department had been asked by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to provide public safety. The Prior Lake Police Department reached out to area law enforcement departments to see if other officers were available to help with public safety at the event. Ondich said that four officers from the New Prague Police Department were interested in participating. He noted that City Attorney Scott Riggs did look over the agreement. It defines the roles, responsibilities, liability concerns, work functions, reimbursement procedures and other issues. New Prague will be reimbursed at a premium rate for the officer’s time during this event.
