Council sets June 30 for regulations on chickens
The New Prague City Council held its second reading of an amended ordinance prohibiting farm animals in the city’s limits during its meeting Monday, March 7.
Among the animals banned will be chickens, although residents who currently have the birds will be allowed time to find new homes for them.
Mayor Chuck Nickolay recommended that they allow ample time for the chickens to be removed. Normally an ordinance would go into affect on the day the second reading is published in the city’s official publication.
Council member Jenna Tuma asked when the issue was first brought up. City Planning Director Ken Ondich replied that the city approved a moratorium on the keeping of chickens on July 16, 2015. He suggested the city....
