Council talks museum, creation of town square

The creation of a museum and a town square were part of the City Council’s work session on Monday, Feb. 5.

Mayor John Grimm brought up the idea of developing a Town Square using the empty former Frandsen Bank building at 103 Elm Ave. SW as the anchor, which would be a site for a museum for the Montgomery Historical Society.

Grimm said in his opinion, the two were closely related and that renting the building for a museum could be a short-term step toward the creation of a Town Square on that city block.

“I think what we need to do is talk about a possible site for a Town Square. We’ve already decided it is a good idea. Jim Mladek and Jean Keogh are pretty hyped after their travels abroad and I think it would be a good addition to have, essentially, a Town Square or park concept,” Grimm said.

The Mayor added that the museum and Town Square would also have to fit in with the city’s building needs for its emergency medical services (EMS - police, ambulance and fire).
