County Road 86 reopens

Scott/Rice County Road 86 has reopened to traffic as of Wednesday, Sept. 22.

The road had been closed between State Highway 19 on the west and County Road 27 on the east for more than a year for major reconstruction, replacement of two bridges, construction of a roundabout and realignment of three intersecting county roads.

Construction was supposed to have been done by Labor Day weekend, but according to Len Laxen from the Scott County Highway Department, there were some minor issues and one area that needed soil corrections that caused the reopening to be delayed by nearly two weeks.

The project is not entirely complete. Laxen said the road is scheduled to receive one more lift of blacktop. That will happen either in mid-October or next spring, depending on conditions.
