Curtain Call musical ‘Into the Woods’ debuts Friday

Curtain Call theater group is taking audiences on a musical fairytale journey with this summer's musical, “Into the Woods.”

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel - all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

The show will be held at the Tri-City United Auditorium on August 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and August 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available on the Curtain Call website CurtainCallTheatre.net and at the door.

“Into the Woods” was written by Steven Sondheim, who also wrote popular musicals such as “Sweeny Todd” and “A Little Night Music.” Sondheim wrote hundreds of songs and musicals through his life time.

“Into the Woods” was also made into a movie in 2014 that was directed by Rob Marshall and featured Anna Kendrick, Daniel Huttlestone, and James Corden as main characters.

The director for Curtain Call’s production is David Holmes who said the show is perfect for families because of its actors and musicians.
