D-R-S League Results 5-12-05

The St. Patrick Irish won a 10-inning slugfest at Bonin Field on Sunday, Lonsdale won its third straight and the Prior Lake Mudcats, Elko and New Prague also won as five games were played in the D-R-S Baseball League.

The results:

St. Patrick 11, Shakopee 10 (10 inn.)

The Irish outhit the visiting Shakopee Coyotes at St. Patrick and led most of the way only to have the Coyotes come up with a 10-run eighth inning and take a 10-9 lead.

A home run by Mike Goldsmith, his second of the day, in the last of the ninth sent the game into extra innings.

Earlier, in the second inning Goldsmith had homered with two on to help St. Patrick to an early 4-0 lead.

Bill Dunker, the second St. Patrick relief pitcher, scored the winning run in the last of the tenth, stealing home on a wild pitch.

It was a climax to what was a comfortable lead suddenly turning into a battle as Shakopee came up with six hits in the eighth inning and took advantage of an error and three walks to grab the lead. Included was a grand slam home run by Jeff Oberding.

St. Patrick had a number hitters with multiple hits.

Matt Ambroz and Matt Pexa, playing their first complete games, led all hitters. Ambroz batted five for six and Pexa four for five, all singles. Goldsmith finished with three for six and five RBI’s, Josh Simon batted four for seven including a double, and Jeff Bjerke hit two for four.

For Shakopee, it was Josh Geyer with three hits, and Corey Fonder, Adam Hoffman and Noah Hoffman with three hits apiece.

Prior Lake 1, Veseli 0

The score came early and it was the only run as the Mudcats capitalized on an error in the second inning in what was otherwise a great pitcher’s duel between starters B.J. Benz of Prior Lake and Dan Novak of Veseli to come away with a 1-0 win.

Dusty Olynyk came home on a delayed steal when a throwing miscue occurred at second base in the fast played, two-hour game.

Manager Greg Faue had opened with a single, Olynyk walked and after a couple of ground outs, one of which erased Faue on a play at home, Olynyk scored on the opportune base running.

Veseli was held to three hits off Benz and Ryan White, who pitched the last two innings and got the save. Ed Shimota, Neil Fischer and Chad Krenik hit singles.

Faue had two of the six Mudcat hits.

New Prague 5, Montgomery 3

Each team made some early errors which helped score three runs for both in the first four innings, but some fine relief pitching for the Orioles by Chad Skluzacek, who worked the last five innings, striking out six, walking only one and allowing no hits was a big factor as New Prague won its first game over visiting Montgomery, 5-3.

Offensively, it was all singles for both teams, but the Orioles outhit the Mallards with Dan Shetka batting four for five and driving in the winning runs with a two-run single in the sixth inning after a walk to Brandon Busch, a fielder’s choice by Angel Cortez and a wild pitch put runners in scoring position.

New Prague totaled nine hits, with Skluzacek getting two in the early going and driving in one run.

Montgomery’s hits were by Christian Anderson, Robert Weaver and Phil Worm.

Lonsdale 9, Webster 2

The Aces scored four runs in the opening inning and were never behind en route to a 9-2 win at Lonsdale over the Webster Sox.

Webster was limited to three hits off the offerings of three Aces pitchers, - singles by Mike Sandman, Travis Groth and Adam Becker. Mike Erhardt and Nate Nielson drove in the two Webster runs with fielder’s choices.

Kyle Kalina drove in three runs with a first-inning single and a sixth-inning double for Lonsdale. Also hitting doubles were Mike Kalina, Chad Vosejpka and Mark Smisek. Chad Vosejpka and Brad Vosejpka singled in the runs during a two-run fourth inning.

Elko 2, New Market 1

Lefthander Brian Muell went the distance on the mound and pitched a 15-strikeout, three-hitter for the Express as Elko defeated New Market at Hillside Park, 2-1.

Wade Regnell hit a solo homer for Elko in the second and the Muskies matched that as Wes Straight and Eric Felder singled and a throwing error resulted in a run in the last of the second.

The winning run scored in the top of the seventh as Neil Petrash doubled for Elko and scored on a single by Pat Fermoyle.

Brad Fredrickson Jr. of New Market and Ty Dombeck of Elko hit doubles during the contest but both were stranded.
