D-R-S strikes early, beats RVL All-Stars 7-1

Breaking a five-game losing streak, the Dakota-Rice- Scott League All-Stars jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed as they defeated the River Valley League All-Stars 7-1 Friday, July 11, in Gaylord.

Two Union Hill Bulldogs provided the big bats for the DRS. Eric Bisek and Adam Gill both had two hits and two RBIs, with Bisek scoring a run as well. Nate Rost of New Market and Kevin Kalina of Lonsdale both had RBI singles and Derek Isaacson of St. Patrick hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the other runs.

Gordon Kappers of Elko and Matt Ambroz of St. Patrick had the other DRS hits, with Ambroz getting a double.

Rost started and struck out four in two innings to get the win. Dylan Thomas of Elko allowed the only RVL run in the third, while striking out four in two innings. Will Lundquist of Elko pitched three innings, allowing one hit and striking out four and Seth Ambroz of St. Patrick pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out five.

The DRS added three runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead. They notched one more in the fifth.

Nick Anderson of the Prior Lake Jays took the loss. Shawn Riesgraf of Chanhassen drove in the only RVL run, scoring Tyler Buescher of the Prior Lake Jays. Buescher and Scott Hollingsworth of Jordan had two hits each for the RVL.

This was the eighth annual game between the two leagues. The DRS won the first meeting, but had lost the last five, with one game having been rained out.
