Dance team working toward Dec. 8 debut

Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

As the fall sports season was winding down, the newest team at New Prague High School was beginning practice for its inaugural season.

The New Prague High School Dance team started workouts on October 19. The team practices daily after school and is working toward its first performances of the season.

The team will make its debut on December 8, at halftime of the New Prague-Waconia girls basketball game. Their first big meet will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12, when the Trojan squad competes at the Eastview Invitational in Apple Valley.

There are eight dates on the team's schedule this year. It includes meets at Eastview and Waconia (January 23) and the Missota Conference meet in Hutchinson on January 16, along with halftime performances at five basketball games.

Dance is a Minnesota State High School League-sanctioned activity, and like other activities culminates with section and state competition. The section meet will be held in Austin on February 6, and the top teams advance to the state meet February 12 and 13 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Christine Plambeck, a New Prague High School graduate and owner of Ovations Dance Studio in New Prague, is co-head coach of the New Prague squad, along with Renae Busse, a New Prague teacher who has previously coached dance at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Twenty-seven girls have been practicing with the team this year. Most of these girls have been in dance for years
