District, teachers agree to contract

The New Prague Area School Board and New Prague Education Minnesota, the union representing the district's teachers, have reached a settlement on a contract covering the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years.
A tentative agreement was reached during a mediation session on January 2. It was presented to the teachers, who voted to approve the agreement during voting on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 10 and 11. The New Prague Area School Board voted to approve the agreement during a special meeting Monday, Jan. 14.
By approving the contract, the district avoided a reduction of up to $90,000 in state aid that would have been imposed by not settling before a January 15 deadline.
