Dog days of summer

The calendar has turned to August, and that means the Le Sueur County Fair, scheduled for August 18-21, is just around the corner. Throughout the county, 4-H members are busy working on their projects, putting on the finishing touches. However, due to the time and space needed for the show, the county competition that qualifies the Le Sueur County 4-H Dog Project members and their canine companions for their 4-H ribbons, awards, premiums and the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Show in September occurs nearly two weeks before the Fair.

The Le Sueur County 4-H Dog Show was held on Saturday, August 6, at the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds in Le Center. There were 25 4-Hers and their canine pals of varying breeds who participated in the show. The members put the skills that they and their dogs have learned through weeks, and in some cases, years, of hard work, dedication, training and practice to the test as they competed in one or more of the show's four categories; Rally, Obedience, Agility, or Showmanship.

If you missed Saturday's 4-H Dog Show, there is still an opportunity to see the 4-Hers and their canines in action at the Le Sueur County Fair. There will be a Dog Project Showcase presented on Thursday, August 18 at 6 p.m., following the Draft Horse Show. The dog project members and their dogs will be demonstrating some of the skills they have learned and a few of the tasks that they are asked to do in their classes of the 4-H Dog Show.
