Dr. Ross Hiner, 59

Dr. J. Ross Hiner, 59, of Lonsdale, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Reflections in N o r t h f i e l d , surrounded by his family, after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

Ross was born on September 5, 1953, a son of Dr. James and Jean Hiner, and raised in Kenyon. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1971 and Concordia College in Moorhead in 1975. He married Nancy Wilson on August 13, 1977. In 1979, he graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School. He moved to Lonsdale, where he opened his own dental office and spent 34 years providing dental care. He was very involved in the community and Trondhjem Lutheran Church, which played an important role in his life. He spent his free time reading, making wine, hunting, fishing, farming and golfing, following the Minnesota Vikings and Gophers football teams, traveling, entertaining family and friends, and boating or sailing. His love for adventure and the outdoors led him to acquire his charter boat captain’s license, as well as a private pilot’s license.

He is survived by his wife; children John (Emily), Farmington, and Krista, Minneapolis; a granddaughter Audrey; siblings Kirk (Carol), Kenyon, Rae Ann (Don) Swanson, Monticello, Beth (Robb) Baribeau, New Prague; his parents; parentsin- law Thomas and Prudence Wilson, Elk River; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m., at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Lonsdale. Reviewal was held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday one hour prior to the services.

Memorials are preferred to www.braintumor.org to fund brain cancer research, or to Trondhjem Lutheran Church.
